S'Enclusa, located on the island of Menorca, was a U.S. military communications base between the 1960s and 1990s. After its closure, the site was later transferred for environmental and cultural purposes.
Using the strategic position of Menorca in the Mediterranean, the installation served as a communications point with neighbouring countries. The site was later considered for use as an interpretation centre for the Biosphere Reserve.
This project begins with a typology of abandoned barracks, where vegetation gradually overtakes the military infrastructure. As the series progresses, nature becomes the central subject of the photographs.
Produced between January and October 2009 using a 4x5 field camera and colour slide film, the work follows a slow and deliberate photographic process.
The complete project consists of 36 photographs. Each title corresponds to the name of a plant appearing in the image, both in Latin and in Menorquín, the traditional dialect spoken on the island.
