About Manuel Pinar
Photographer
Manuel Pinar (Seville, 1980) is a Spanish photographer who works between documentary observation and long-form personal projects.
He began his professional career as a photojournalist for the Menorcan newspaper Última Hora. He later lived and worked in the United States, Germany and China. Those years shaped how he reads place in the field.
He graduated from EFTI in Madrid, where he completed a Master’s degree in Photography. He was also awarded a European Union scholarship to develop work in Southern Germany.
He attended PhotoEspaña workshops with photographers including Paul Graham, Eduardo Momeñe, Nadav Kander and Cristina García Rodero.
He is based in the Basque Country and works on long-form landscape projects in Spain and abroad.
Approach
He works slowly on 4×5 colour film in the field, with prints made for exhibition scale.
All projects were produced using 4x5" large format cameras on colour film.
